Immersive Illumination or a Ceiling with Some Lights?
Cooledge Luminous Ceiling Products are Lighting First
Creating a vibrant, comfortable environment that enhances the experience of a space, whether for work, shopping, or leisure, is fundamentally based on delivering illumination that meets the specific needs of the user. To accomplish this requires more than just putting some LEDs behind a large diffuser and hoping there is enough light.
A complete solution requires an understanding of every aspect of lighting with documentation to support light level calculations, color rendering considerations, color uniformity, flicker and glare control, and dimming or tuning. That is why Cooledge luminous ceiling products not only deliver immersive illumination but have the proof to show it.
Surprising Levels of Illumination
Vibrant AND Comfortable
Much as a diffuse sky delivers high levels of light by virtue of scale, the immersive illumination experience created with Cooledge luminous ceiling products similarly provides sufficient general area lighting without the visual discomfort of traditional lighting.
Luminous Ceilings are Low Glare by Nature
Immersive Illumination is Inherently Comfortable
Glare is another aspect of lighting that has been associated with poor user experiences ranging from mildly unpleasant to miserable. As opposed to the points and lines of traditional lighting, luminous ceilings are inherently low glare sources of illumination.
The calculation of glare is dependent upon the specific characteristics of a space and the position of the observer, however, some general recommendations provide guidance for determining the level of glare one might expect from lighting products.
The Unified Glare Rating (UGR) is one method used to analyze glare and its relationship to visual comfort. Good design practice targets a UGR value of <19 considered acceptable for general workspaces and <16 for more critical areas, while UGR values of 10-13 are considered to have a barely perceptible discomfort value.
