With a locally inspired design, the Walgreens Ke’eaumoku Flagship Store in the center of Honolulu is an award winning building receiving both a Grand Award from the Building Industry Association and a Gold award from the ICSC U.S. at their Design and Development Competition. The design of the store pays homage to the local culture and the buildings that had long been a part of the wetlands area that was once home to a fishing village.
The feature interior lighting continues the theme of the dramatic, angular steel entrance of the store with a continuous, uniform illuminated ceiling. In addition to meeting the levels of lighting required in the retail space, the solution needed to fit into the embedded diagonal graphic pattern of the ceiling. The greatest challenge in the project was accomplishing the design and installation in a short, four week period.
